THE UNREPENTANT NECROPHILE
A mortician falls in love with a man as she prepares his corpse for burial. She has three days until the funeral... but three days just isn't enough. A punk rock opera about a mortician and her body, inspired by true events. Created and performed by Katie Hartman, Nick Ryan and Nate Gebhard In collaboration with Mark Benzel "The Unrepentant Necrophile" is a three-person, minimalist musical created with drums, electric bass and electric guitar. A blend of physical theater, music and horror, it explores sexuality, consent and gender politics through the anarchistic lens of punk rock. It premiered at the 2015 Twin Cities Horror Festival in Minneapolis, and has toured to the Cincinnati Fringe Festival and the Orlando International Fringe Festival. In Orlando it received the "Patron's Pick" and "Fringe of the Fringe" awards. "As unapologetic a piece of theater as I've ever seen. It takes a true story and tells it in an amazingly unique way, without commenting on its admittedly difficult subject matter." -Cincinnati City Beat "The gleeful crassness of the whole proceeding is hard to resist. The musical staging is endlessly inventive, Katie Hartman's voice is a remarkable instrument" -Minnesota Playlist "Hartman's volcanic performance makes this uncomfortable material compelling... Explodes with all the anarchistic passion you could ask for... " -Orlando Weekly "It's almost too weird for Fringe" -American Underground Tuesday October 29-Thursday October 31st. 8pm. Costume party on Halloween after the show! Comments are closed.
