Brave New World Repertory Theatre presents the New York premiere of this early Gertrude Stein play. The text is a thrilling example of Stein’s “theater of landscape.” Director Katherine Brook’s production takes a strong point of view on Stein’s abstract, fragmented text, interpreting its domestic-centered language as a fanatical pursuit of sweetness amid horror and violence. Moving briskly between war-time testimony, fractured poetry, and oozy baby-talk, the women in Brook’s production are drawn deeper and deeper into the uncanny valley of their femininity, in a world in which good housekeeping is a battlefield and pregnancy is contagious.

The work is a meditation on music and memories scored for a surprising array of recycled and home made instruments with electronic sounds. Drummer Nick Woodbury (SF) joins him for a set of next level beats that use rewired video game controllers to rewire your brain. Impose Photo Show
In December 2012, Impose held its first ever photo show, which celebrated Impose's tenth anniversary with ten photographers. They decided to take some more of the wonderful images published on their website offline with another photo show in 2014. From June 13 through 15, they'll have prints from six of their talented photographers on display at Cloud City. Come see the works of Rafe Baron, Dylan Johnson, Marcus Lauer, Sam Leung, Jeanette D. Moses, and Ester Segretto that have been published on these lovely pages within the past year. Impose Photo Editors Eric Phipps and Edwina Hay will be DJing throughout the evening and will also have one print each on display. We'll celebrate with an opening reception on Saturday, June 14 from 6-9pm. Constance and the Perpetual Motion Machine
On tour from Chicago for two nights at Cloud City, Rough House presents its latest critically acclaimed, darkly humorous puppet play of catastrophe, grief and mechanical engineering. As Nora, a young engineer, wrestles with the recent loss of her best friend, Constance, she must navigate a dream world steeped in fragmented and distorted memory. Abetted by a man on a quest for mechanical perfection, Nora is torn between the memory of loss and the promise of a machine that never slows, never fails, and never dies. “Rough House Theater’s latest piece is elegant and odd, featuring shadow puppets, an all-white kinetic set, and a perpetual motion machine.” -Chicago Reader Created and Performed by Emma Alamo, Kay Kron, Mike Oleon, Claire Saxe and Emme Williams. Shadows by Sara Drake, costumes by Haley Jaeger, machine by Robert Katovich. June 10th at 8pm June 11th at 8pm A NIGHT ON THE HILLS OF THE FREIGHT.
