BAD FILM FEST
Come celebrate our 8th year of screening weird, eclectic & outlandish short films from NYC and around the globe. A collection of no-budget, low-budget and even slickly produced short films. HORROR, COMEDY, DRAMA, ANIMATION, DOCUMENTARY, EXPERIMENTAL, WHATEVER! Some are horrible, some might force you to ask, "WTF?!?" But there's also a slim chance you might actually love something. High Notes is a monthly high-energy, queer AF, and rock-n-roll-as-hell live musical comedy show hosted by the self proclaimed Rock Goddess of Comedy: Tessa Skara. Featuring a backing band of basement rockstars, High Notes is a show that brings together a revolving roster of stand up comedians, cabaret performers and musicians to belt out numbers on the meaning of life, love, and how kombucha tastes like salad dressing (which is why it's perfect!). If you’re looking for a night of live music, jokes jokes jokes, and moody acoustic ruminations on how selfish it is of your therapist to go on maternity leave then High Notes is the show for you! PLAYxPLAY is a free, monthly, staged-reading series that highlights the body of work of an emerging playwright by presenting an evening of their short works as directed by a rotating group of three directors and a company of collaborating actors. We offer audiences the rare opportunity to see a wide range of one writer's voice in one evening, while simultaneously offering the playwright the chance to see a variety of interpretations of their work by an array of artists. The group is run by co-producers and resident directors: Jake Beckhard, Bryn Herdrich, and Lauren Zeftel. -------- ABOUT THE FEATURED WRITER -------- NAZARETH HASSAN is a southern playwright, poet, essayist, and musician based in Brooklyn. He is the 2017 recipient of the Dramatist Guild Young Playwright Award and the 2019 recipient of the Himan Brown Writing Award. He has had work developed and produced by places including Horizon Theatre Company, Fresh Ground Pepper, and Emory University. He has been published by ThreadMag and Without Further Adu. He has performed music at venues including Boston Symphony Hall, Joe's Pub, Atlanta Symphony Hall, The Fox Theatre, and Lincoln Center. His play VANTABLACK is a 2019 Theatretreffen Stuckemarkt Selection in Berlin. His play "" will be performed in ANTfest on June 21.
