Dancing! Giggles and ha has! kissy kissy Repic returns on Saturday night with RISE AND FALL - from the libretto of the crazy-awesome opera 'Aufsteig und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny' by Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht and Elisabeth Hauptmann. We're calling it 'The Return of the Wealthy Fucker' - our version of the speakeasy, anti-legal culture the sexy trio of criminals comes up with. . . Cadence Dakota Begbick and her cronies, Willy the Veep and Trinity Moses, are trying to evade the cops when they hit on a fantastic money-making scheme: a dirty underground DIY bar called the Wealthy Fucker; an anti-legal, radically free environment for vice and pleasure (if you have the money). Jimmy Gallagher and his Alaska-dude buddies have come to Brooklyn with their pockets full of oil-money, ready for a wild, free, stoned, indulgent time. When the hurricane comes, Jimmy cracks open everyone's mind and all Heavenhell breaks loose. . .
We are also very pleased to welcome the great DENNIS SULLIVAN, whose musical incantations will be seen and believed by those lucky enough to be in attendance. Along with Mr. Sullivan, the impossible to categorize music/charm of ASHKON DAVARAN will be on tap. What's not to love here?! 8pm FREE Directed by Eric Powell Holm from a new translation by Ian Storey, RISE AND FALL stars the great Katie Melby as Jimmy Gallagher, and features a badass cast of young superstars, known as the Brechovians: John Egan, Lindsey Larkin, Marianna Caldwell, Toni Ann DeNoble, Kate Gunther, Giverny Petitmermet, Ben Lewis, and introducing NYC to Jalyn Knobloch as Hank. We're so happy to have Jill Woodward as our stage manager; lights and sound were first designed and played by Mr. Ben Gansky; the great Andrew Lynch wrote the final song. (Big Love to our emeritus Brechovians: Nora Krahl in Berlin, Colby Chambers in beautiful Montana.) Repic is produced by Kelly Klein, Ben Lewis, and Eric Powell Holm. TWO PERFORMANCES:
Friday September 6th at 8:00 Saturday September 7th at 8:00 SEATING IS LIMITED so please RSVP! Come out and celebrate that we have survived our stay in Upstate New York! See what we have been working on. The Freight Project brings performers working in multi disciplines to rural Cambridge, New York and workshops new work in a turn of the century opera house. Come see the fruits of a weeks labor. Performances by: Brendan Duggan and Mallory Lynn, co-founders of LoudHoundMovement in NYC, are working on a choreographic collaboration based on the book Town of Shadows by Lindsay Stern. The finished piece will be performed in an evening ...length installation work in November of 2013. Their time at The Freight serves to research the play between choreography, text, set, and character while also identifying new avenues of translating an existing text into abstracted form. Performed by Kacie Boblitt and Shelby Jane. Lyndsey Anderson, Andrew Lynch, and Katie Melby, Eric Powell Holm will be working on a portion of their opera adaptation of Hans Christian Anderson's The Shadow. It might involve some puppets... maybe some video... Maridee Slater's SIRENS is a collaboratively generated multi-media Circus Symphony based on The Little Mermaid, using further text and imagery from Slavic Siren myth, Ondine, Americana, Oscar Wilde's The Fisherman and His Soul, and Neil Gaiman's American Gods. |
