"written for: martha cargo + andPlay” explores the diverse timbres of solo flute with and without electronics, violin and viola, and the trio combination. Martha Cargo’s set will feature works by Chinese composer Yangzhi Ma, Seattle-based composer and frequent collaborator Anne Goldberg, Brooklyn-based composer Nick Nelson (for speaking flutist, inspired by Kaija Saariaho) and a new work-in-progress by fellow Oberlin College grad Michael Beharie. andPlay will premiere 4 new duos by Yale-educated, Brooklyn-based pianist-composer Paul Kerekes; NYC-based Brian Petuch, who works with Bang on a Can's archives; Peruvian composer-percussionist Ivonne K Paredes; and Kansas City-based Hunter Long, who founded Black House Collective. The trios will include new works by pianist-improviser-composer Jonah Rosenberg and Drake Andersen, who is at work on a doctorate at Graduate Center, CUNY.
