FAT BEAR WEEK KICKOFF!
It's Fat Bear Week again! We'll be having a party on Fat Bear Eve to meet this year's contenders, fill out March-Madness-style brackets, and generally appreciate the fat bears of Katmai National Park and Preserve (and all the other fat bears out there too). $10 a bear bracket-- half the pot will go to the winner(s), and we'll donate the other half to the Otis Fund at Katmai Conservancy. But you can still come appreciate the bears even if you don't want to do a bracket. In the meantime, check out the bear cams from Explore.org- endlessly fascinating! (fyi: the Fat Bear Junior competition happens on September 18th-19th. Who will be the bear baby of the year?!) Tuesday, Sepember 23rd. 6:30 pm. BYOB and BYOSalmon! WE DIDN'T MAKE IT
A variety show by two guys who didn’t make it. This month’s theme: How I Spent My Summer Vacation. Joe Schiappa (We Didn’t Make It) and Chris Roberti (We Didn’t Make It) host. Featuring: A film from renowned filmmaker Will Dennis (will be in attendance) A poem from renowned poet Julia Bergdorf (will be in attendance) A bit of comedy from renowned comic Mary Houlihan (will be in attendance) A feat of magic from renowned magician Magic Brian (will be in attendance) A delight of music from renowned musician Corn Mo (will be in attendance) Friday, September 19th. 8pm. WIGS: THE PLAY
A bold, eighty-minute, fully improvised yet narrative-driven theatrical experience where wigs spark characters and audience suggestions shape entire worlds. When audience members buy a ticket, they’re asked to suggest a time, place, and conflict. On the night of the show, a giant wheel spins as the audience takes their seats — revealing the randomly selected setting that will shape that night’s performance. Then, wigs are tossed to our cast, who grab a few props and step instantly into character. This isn’t your typical improv show. Wigs is on-your-feet narrative storytelling — character-driven, fully embodied, and guided by quick, brilliant actors who craft an entirely new story every single night. Friday, September 12th. 7:30 pm. PETTING ZOO: LIVE COMEDY WITH LIVE ANIMALS
Welcome to the Petting Zoo. This is the world’s only comedy show featuring live exotic animals. New York’s top comics have to perform while holding snakes, birds, lizards, bugs, and other cool creatures. Between sets, you can interact up-close with the animals and learn from Ranger Eric Powers and his team of professional nature guides. We promise you haven’t been to a show like this. Hosted by Charlie Sosnick and special guest host Rachel Costner! Featuring Rooster Monaghan, Sureni Weerasekera, and Allie Levitan! Friday, September 5th. 8 pm. |
